A BRIEF STUDY ON FEW CHALLENGES OF TRADITIONAL RETAILER - A RAY OF HOPE TO FDI IN RETAILING
ABSTRACT:
Indian Retail industry is becoming more organized though the percentage is still not a large one to be boasted about. Though all the large business houses of India has already joined the league of organized retail, still there is plenty of scope for others in front end retail operations and especially in back end retail operations. This is the factor that is attracting the top retailers of the world to think their destination as India. Bold decision of Indian government towards FDI in Retail is a lot for foreign retailer, but, the inherent challenges faced by the traditional retailer are also giving a hope to those who have dreams of entering Indian retail arena through FDI. This paper would discuss such few unfocussed issues like decreasing interest of young generation in joining their family business of retailing, new demographic and sociographic profile of Indian consumer which resulted in changes in their preference towards retail shop that they would like to visit for buying different necessities etc. .
